Serial entrepreneur, angel investor, philanthropist and co-founder of Elite Daily Gerard Adams wasted no time in sharing his thoughts on social media when he took the stage for a Fireside Chat Nov. 8 with 1871 CEO Howard Tullman.  “Had to grab my phone to get a SnapChat of this!,” he said.

The 9th Annual Momentum Dinner at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel was an enormous success, bringing together the best and brightest in Chicago to once again to celebrate the past, present and future of the Chicago entrepreneur. Hosted for the benefit of 1871 by the CEC, the 2016 Momentum Awards welcomed more than 800 guests to celebrate “Impact and Purpose” -- a theme that recognized the leaders in the community who embody the unique and unselfish spirit of the entrepreneurial community in Chicago.

We had the rare opportunity last week to sit down at 1871 with Joe Mansueto, the founder, and CEO of Morningstar, for a fireside chat. Having known Joe for more than 30 years now, and given the astonishing growth and success of his various business ventures, I’m always amazed at how modest and accessible he remains and what a great booster of Chicago and its entrepreneurs he has always been. 

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his firm, Pritzker Group Venture Capital, I hosted a fireside chat with J.B. Pritzker at 1871. It was J.B. who led the group that founded 1871 in 2012. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of entrepreneurs, investors, and several hundred others interested in hearing the gospel straight from one of venture capital's leading apostles. 

As we continue to read less and less and watch and listen to ever-increasing amounts of content--and the younger you are, the less you read-- it's becoming clear that new types of communication skills are going to be essential for any kind of success in our schools, our businesses and our lives. Not to mention our politics because, say whatever else you will about his messages, The Donald is a master communicator and it's no accident that he left the dirty dozen and a half in the dust.
