This Week on Instagram: Arts in the Dark, SlapMap and a New Immersive Learning Lab

1871 was honored to host the Arts in the Dark press conference for the October 21st night-time parade, where we will be marching along with our very own float! Off campus, we partnered with member company EX3 Labs and Conagra to dedicate their first ever Immersive Learning Lab to the students of George M. Pullman Elementary School. And kudos to SlapMap, which launched their wearable concept (which unfolds into a map of Chicago) this week.

 

Only thing cooler than a slap bracelet is a #CHICAGO slap MAP bracelet. Member company @slapmap launched their wearable concept yesterday and we dig it. What are some of your favorite songs about #ChiTown?

#DailyGreg . Back in 2015, @BreneBrown visited 1871 for an incredible fireside chat. The reason I mention that is because it was at this event, prior to buying my favorite lens (The @SigmaPhoto 135mm Art) I got this dope shot that framed Howard and Brene with some great depth with the crowd. . I think it was at that event I truly learned about working a room and using creative angles to get the shot you want. That being said, Tom Wheeler visited 1871 earlier this week for a fireside chat on defending #NetNeutrality and I found myself approaching this event almost the same way but with 2 more years worth of knowledge about #photography under my belt. - @itookanotherphoto

#DailyGreg . The visiting entrepreneurs from @telavivuni were some of the coolest folks I got to meet. Last week their program culminated with a showcase where each company pitched and discussed their companies to a full crowd. I hope we get to see more companies visiting from all over the world. - @itookanotherphoto

Great things can happen when startups and corporations work together. Thanks to support from @conagrabrands, 1871 member company @ex3labs is able to dedicate their FIRST Immersive Learning Lab to the students of George M. Pullman Elementary School. Adam of @ex3labs first learned to code at his public library. A gesture like—who knows what learning about #VR and #AR will do for these students. Strong work.

#DailyGreg . Today as a part of our monthly High School field trip program we had students from Mundelein, Vernon Hills and Highland Park visit 1871. Matt from Sage Corps, Marco from Touristeen, and Adam from Ex3 Labs got on stage and educated them about possible careers in tech. . Adam made a remark on how he got into entrepreneurship. One of his notes was how he used #Napster. Only thing is, none of the kids really reacted to this anecdote. It was right then and there I realized...I'm getting old. These kids didn't know what Napster was. #OyVey - @itookanotherphoto
